skin deep

skin is clever stuff. it has to be. it is responsible for keeping the outside world out and the inside world in - for protecting
the internal organs and retaining essential while resisting infection and providing a barrier to damage.
more than a barrier
But that is not all. Your skin also regulates your body temperature by sweating when it is not and restricting the blood supply when it is cold.
it gets rid of waste materials that cannot pass through the kidneys and distributes nutrients and oxygen to the nerves, glands, hair and nails.
it sends pain signals to the brain.

To do all this the skin is endowed with unique qualities. it has
hair follicles to get sebum to the surface; acutely sensitive nerve receptors;
elastic tissues capable of expanding by 50 per cent, and a highly productive regenerative system. it is adaptable, too , responding to one's age or mood,
to the time of the month or season of the year.
As the most exposed and most expressive part of the body, your face has the body's most sophisticated skin of all.
has more nerve endings and sebaceous glands, the smallest capillaries, the thinnest skin and the finest and most fiexible muscles directly attached to it.
Even within the face , these are finely specialized. The thinnest skin is found on the eyelids and lips; the thickest on the forehead, jaw and chin.
The oiliest is on the nose, temples and forehead , the driest on the cheeks and jaw. No wonder people find it difficult to care for and are drawn in by
the offers of help from the beauty houses.
